Crème brûlée with all the extras!

How to Make a Delectable Instant Pot Crème Brûlée with Your Kids

Hello fellow hat-wearers, it’s Ava from “All Them Hats”! Today, I’m excited to share with you an easy, kid-friendly recipe for homemade Crème Brûlée using an Instant Pot. My three little ones love getting involved in the kitchen, and this recipe offers plenty of opportunities for them to help out. Let’s dive in!

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Chill Time: 2 hours
Total Time: 2 hours, 20 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/8 cups maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • ~6 tsp granulated sugar (for caramelizing)

Equipment:

Instructions:

  • Mix all the ingredients (except sugar) together. Have your little ones help crack the egg yolks into a medium-sized bowl (be sure to keep an eye on any rogue shell pieces). Let your kids measure out the heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  • Pour mixture into six ramekins and cover each with foil
  • Place trivet in the Instant Pot (make sure the liner is in!) and pour 1 cup of water.
  • Place the ramekins in the Instant Pot on top of the trivet; 3 on the trivet and 3 stacked on top of the first 3 ramekins.
  • Cover/lock lid and cook on high pressure for 5 minutes
  • When cook time is complete, let it naturally release for 10 minutes then manually release the remaining pressure.
  • Use a potholder and carefully remove the ramekins from the Instant Pot.
  • Remove foil (save for later) and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. If not eating the same day, put foil back on after Crème Brûlée is fully chilled to avoid condensation building up inside.
  • After custard is set and ready to enjoy, have you kid(s) sprinkle each Crème Brûlée with ~1tsp of sugar to cover the top with a thin layer of sugar.
  • Use a kitchen torch (adult only) to caramelize the sugar for a crispy and browned crust. Let the Crème Brûlée sit for a few minutes to allow the sugar to harden, then serve and enjoy your delicious homemade treat with the whole family! The kids will love using the spoon to “crack” the crust!

With this Instant Pot Crème Brûlée recipe, you and your kids can create a delightful dessert together. Not only is it fun and easy to make, but it’s also a fantastic way to bond with your little ones in the kitchen. Enjoy, and don’t forget to wear “All Them Hats” proudly while cooking!
